An affordable housing development, Westminster Crossing sits on what was once a garment factory. A tapestry seemed a fitting concept for the vehicular gate artworks, which tell the story of how the city is woven together from successive ‘migrations’ of people over time and from many geographies. On one gate, swimming fish pay homage to what was once the largest goldfish hatchery in the Western U.S. The fish also allude to the movement of people across oceans. On a second gate, soaring birds allude to the crossings of people across skies and lands. The theme and motifs were inspired by workshops held with students from the nearby Westminster High School. Thank you, students, for inspiring us with your creativity and personal stories.
