OF TWO LINEAGES

Located in the heart of the largest Vietnamese community in the U.S., the artwork is a contemporary re-telling of the traditional Vietnamese founding legend of Lạc Long Quân and Âu Cơ. It celebrates the immigrant story about the building of a community from the tragedies of war. The artwork creates a public plaza within the parking lot of a popular shopping complex. Surrounding the central sculpture are benches that showcase 100 portraits of everyday Vietnamese Americans, a collaborative project with the Vietnamese American Oral History Project of UC-Irvine. The night time illumination symbolizes the resiliency and hopes of the community, while serving as a distinctive beacon for the area.
