OF TWO LINEAGES
Location: Westminster, CA Client: Vietnamese American Cultural Alliance Located in the heart of the largest Vietnamese community in the U.S., the artwork is a contemporary re-telling of the traditional Vietnamese founding legend of Lạc Long Quân and Âu Cơ. It celebrates the immigrant story about a people taking roots in a new land, exchanging cultures, while growing and evolving, yet connected to the ancestral land through myth, traditions, and family. The artwork creates a public plaza within the parking lot of a popular shopping complex. Surrounding the central sculpture are benches that showcase 100 portraits of everyday Vietnamese Americans, a collaborative project with the Vietnamese American Oral History Project of UC-Irvine. Glowing like a lantern at night, the sculpture is internally illuminated with LED lights, symbolizing the resiliency and hopes of the community, while serving as a distinctive beacon for the area. |
