EVERYDAY SHADOWPLAY
Location: Santa Ana, CA Client: Private Fabricator: Precision Metal Crafts Cascading ripples, 30 feet high by 16 feet wide, front an entry wall at a warehouse facility. Iluminumated at night, the artwork was designed to be a place-making element and be visible from the nearby freeway. The artwork was inspired by the historic relationship of the City of Santa Ana to its namesake river. The Tongva (Gabrielino) people were among the first to live in vicinity of the river, which they called Wanaawna. They established several villages along the river, including Pajbenga in the vicinity of present-day Santa Ana. After Europeans arrived, the river was used to irrigate agricultural fields and vineyards. By the end of the nineteenth century, the river sustained vast orange groves in Orange County, the communities of which became prosperous as a result. |
